# What is Account reset?

> An account reset restores a prop firm evaluation account to its starting balance and rules, usually for a fee lower than a new challenge, after a breach or on request.

In a prop firm, a reset lets a trader restart the same evaluation without buying a new one. It is common at futures firms and increasingly offered elsewhere, typically at a discount to the full fee and sometimes only within a set number of days of a breach.

A free retake (or free retry) is a related offer: the trader gets another attempt at no charge if they end a time-limited phase in profit without reaching the target and without breaching any rule. Firms that dropped time limits often dropped free retakes with them.

Resets and retakes affect reporting. Decide whether a reset counts as a new evaluation in pass-rate and revenue figures, and keep the definition fixed.

## Why it matters

Resets are a meaningful revenue line at many firms and a retention tool after a breach, when the trader is most likely to leave. Offer the reset inside the breach email and the dashboard, price it clearly, and make sure the reset terms are on the pricing or rules page, not discovered at checkout.
