In a prop firm, a high-risk merchant account is usually the only card option. Acquirers classify prop evaluations as high risk because of chargeback exposure, regulatory uncertainty and the resemblance to trading products.

Terms typically include higher processing fees, a rolling reserve, longer settlement delays, monthly volume caps and close monitoring of chargeback and refund ratios. Approval requires a full underwriting file: company documents, website review, terms, refund policy and processing history.

Accounts can be closed with little notice if the acquirer's risk appetite changes, which is why firms keep alternatives ready.

## Why it matters

Card payments are still how most traders buy, so this account is a lifeline. Prepare the website before underwriting: terms, refund policy, risk disclosure, restricted countries, contact details and a clear product description. A site that looks like it hides something will be declined.
