> MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) is the EU regulation for crypto-asset issuers and service providers, relevant to prop firms that take or pay in crypto or stablecoins.

MiCA (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) became fully applicable on December 30, 2024, with transitional periods for existing providers that vary by member state. It requires crypto-asset service providers to be authorized and sets rules for stablecoin issuers.

For prop firms, MiCA matters through payments. Crypto payment gateways serving EU customers need the right authorization, and some stablecoins have been restricted on EU platforms because their issuers are not authorized under MiCA. That can affect which coins a firm can accept from, or pay to, EU traders through a compliant provider.

MiCA does not regulate prop evaluations as such; the question is whether your crypto payment partners are compliant for the customers you serve.

## Why it matters

Crypto is a major payment rail for prop firms, often because card processing is hard. Check that your crypto providers are authorized for EU customers, list accepted coins on your payment FAQ, and be ready to change supported stablecoins without rewriting the site.
