In a futures prop firm, NinjaTrader is often the front end traders want to use, connected to the firm's accounts through Rithmic or through NinjaTrader and Tradovate's own infrastructure. Its NinjaScript language supports custom indicators and automated strategies.

Because NinjaTrader supports automation, firms that allow it need an EA policy that covers NinjaScript strategies and third-party add-ons, and a risk engine that can spot automated abuse.

Licensing for the platform itself can be separate from the prop account; firms should state whether a NinjaTrader license is included or the trader needs their own.
