**Short answer:** In 2026 a new CFD prop firm can license Match-Trader (from $2,500 a month as published), TradeLocker (Starter $3,000 a month for up to 500 active accounts), DXtrade or cTrader (quote only), or MT5 through a willing licence holder. Futures firms choose Rithmic front ends, Tradovate or NinjaTrader Prop, Volumetrica or DXtrade XT. Pick by your traders' habits, US access and exit terms, and launch with two platforms if you can.

The trading platform is the one piece of a prop firm you almost always rent, and since 2024 it has been the piece most likely to change underneath you. This hub compares every platform route open to a new firm, with prices where vendors publish them, and links to a deeper guide for each. It is written for operators and doesn't rank vendors.

## Which platforms can a new prop firm license?

A new prop firm can license most modern platforms directly from the developer or a reseller; MetaTrader is the exception, because access runs through someone else's MetaQuotes licence. The table is the short version.

**Trading platforms for prop firms: access, published price and known risk (checked October 2026; prices as published by vendors)**

| Platform | Market | How firms get it | Published price | Known risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MT5 | CFD | White label via a broker/provider licence | Industry range $5,000–$15,000 setup, $1,000–$5,000/month (B2Broker); prop access quote only | Grey-label cut-offs Feb 2024; no published prop policy |
| MT4 | CFD | Existing licence holders only | Quote only | No new MT4 licences since Jan 2018 |
| cTrader | CFD | Spotware direct or resellers | Quote only | US prop onboarding restricted in 2026 |
| Match-Trader | CFD | Direct; platform + prop CRM + Match2Pay | $2,500 / $4,000 / $5,000 a month tiers, "request offer" | Vendor can terminate licences (SurgeTrader, May 2024) |
| TradeLocker | CFD | Direct prop plans | Starter $3,000/month up to 500 active accounts; no setup fee | Single-vendor dependency |
| DXtrade | CFD and futures (XT) | Devexperts direct or partners | Quote only | Single-vendor dependency |
| Rithmic + front ends | Futures | Usually via a back-office vendor | Quote only | Per-user data and front-end fees |
| Tradovate / NinjaTrader Prop | Futures | NT Technologies agreement | Quote only | Owner strategy (Kraken-owned since 2025) |
| Volumetrica | Futures, CFD, crypto | Direct or partners | Quote only | Single-vendor dependency |
| ProjectX | Futures | Not available | n/a | Topstep-only since Feb 28, 2026 |

## What do prop firms actually offer?

Most firms offer several platforms. In PropFirmPal's September 2026 enrichment data for 245 firms (a comparison site we own), MT5 appeared at 56 firms, cTrader 30, TradeLocker 28, TradingView 25, NinjaTrader 22, Tradovate 21, Match-Trader 19, Quantower 17, ATAS 13, Sierra Chart 10, DXtrade 9 and Bookmap 9. These overlap and mix markets, so read them as a map of trader familiarity, not market share.

On the vendor side, PropTechPal's directory of 25 prop-tech vendors (also ours) shows which platforms back offices connect to: MT5, cTrader and Match-Trader at 21 vendors each, MT4 19, TradeLocker 17, DXtrade 13, Rithmic 7, Tradovate 5, TradingView 4, NinjaTrader 4, Quantower 3 and ProjectX 2 (historical).

## How should you choose?

Choose by working backward from your traders and your exit, not from a feature list.

- Trader familiarity: ask your affiliates and community what they trade on today. A platform your audience has to learn costs you conversions.
- Country access: list your target countries and check each platform's restrictions, especially the US, where both MetaTrader and cTrader narrowed prop access.
- Unit cost: compare the price per active account at your realistic volume, plus feed, data and CRM fees, not the headline monthly fee.
- Rule enforcement: confirm the platform and back office can enforce your rules automatically, including drawdown type and news rules.
- Exit terms: notice period, data export format and parallel running during a migration.
- Two platforms: launching with two routes means one vendor decision can't stop sales.

## What does your platform choice mean for your website?

Your platform choice shapes five parts of your website, and getting them right is what lets you change platforms later without a rebuild. Treat platform names as data on the site, not copy scattered through it.

- Platform pages: one page per platform with downloads, login steps and platform-specific rules, so each can be retired with a dated notice and redirect.
- Sign-up and checkout hand-off: platform and country captured before payment, passed to the back office, with unavailable combinations hidden rather than refunded.
- Restricted countries: a per-platform table, dated, matching what checkout and KYC enforce.
- Disclosures: simulated accounts, third-party platforms, availability can change, and market-specific legends your lawyer advises.
- Structured data and llms.txt: list current platforms so search engines and AI assistants stop repeating old ones after a change.

> PipValley builds prop firm websites where platforms are data, so a platform change is an edit, not a redesign. Launch is $1,490 for the build, then $49.99 a month for care; Signature is $3,500 plus $75 a month.

## Questions

### What is the best trading platform for a new prop firm?

There is no single best platform; the right one is the platform your target traders already use, available in their countries, at a per-account cost you can carry. Many new firms launch on two, such as Match-Trader or TradeLocker plus cTrader or DXtrade.

### What is the cheapest trading platform for a prop firm?

Among platforms that publish prices, Match-Trader lists a white label from $2,500 a month and TradeLocker's Starter plan is $3,000 a month for up to 500 active accounts, as of October 2026. Compare cost per active account, not the headline fee.

### Can a prop firm change platforms later?

Yes, but it takes planned overlap: balances, rule state and payout eligibility move with each trader, and the website's platform, rules, FAQ and checkout pages all change. Owning your website and data makes it far easier.
