How Much Do Prop Firms Make? Revenue and Owner Earnings

How much prop firms make: what the few published figures show, how revenue scales with challenges sold, and what an owner actually keeps.

There is no reliable industry average for prop firm revenue, because almost no firm publishes accounts. What we can do is show the published outliers, then show how revenue is built for a firm of any size so a founder can model their own.

What do the published figures say?

These are among the largest and oldest firms. They are not a guide to what a new firm earns.

  • FTMO: CZK 8.8 billion (about $422.9 million) of revenue in 2025 and CZK 782 million (about $37.5 million) of net income, as reported by TradeInformer citing CzechCrunch, September 2026.
  • FTMO's parent: CZK 6.84 billion (about $329 million) of revenue in 2024 and about $62.5 million net profit, per Finance Magnates.
  • Topstep: over $25 million of revenue in 2020, with EBITDA of more than $3.7 million, as reported by TradeInformer from legal documents it reviewed (unaudited).

How is revenue built?

Revenue is challenges sold multiplied by the average price actually paid, plus resets and add-ons. The average price paid is lower than list price because affiliate discount codes cut it. Our affiliate guide works an illustrative example: a $100 evaluation sold with a 20% code and 15% commission leaves the firm $68 before payouts and other costs.

From that $68, the firm still pays card processing, platform or per-account fees, KYC at payout and the expected payout cost for that account size. What is left after those, support, marketing and salaries is the owner's margin, and it moves every month with the payout ratio.

What does the owner keep on a white label?

Less margin, less risk. On a provider-funded profit-share deal, the provider pays traders and takes a share: PropSuite publishes a 50% founder share of net revenue plus fees of $5 per account and 5% of revenue. On a fixed-fee platform such as a Match-Trader white label from $2,500 a month, the owner keeps more of the margin but funds every payout.

Use the launch cost calculator to model your own numbers, and treat any vendor or course promising a specific income as a red flag.

Questions

How much do prop firm owners make?

It varies from losses to tens of millions of dollars a year at the largest firms. Owners keep what is left after payouts, affiliates, processing, technology, support and marketing, and that changes monthly with trader performance.

How many challenges does a prop firm need to sell?

Enough that fee revenue after discounts and commission covers fixed costs plus expected payouts with room for a bad month. Model it by account size rather than with an average price.

Do prop firms make more from failed traders?

Failed evaluations are the main source of revenue, because most traders do not pass. The model is fair when rules are published before purchase and applied as written.
