How to start a crypto prop firm: 24/7 rules, rails, regulation.
Crypto is where prop meets exchanges: Kraken bought a crypto prop firm in 2025, and on-chain payouts from the top firms doubled in a year. Here is what changes for a founder, with published fees and dated sources.

A crypto prop firm sells evaluations on crypto markets: a trader pays a fee, trades a simulated account priced from crypto markets under your rules, and those who pass can request payouts from simulated profit. The model is the same as forex or futures; the market, the platform choice, the payment rails and the legal questions are not.
Two numbers explain the interest. Finance Magnates Data Lab tracked crypto payouts at the ten largest prop firms rising from $55.3M in Q1 2025 to $115.1M in Q1 2026; those are payouts paid on-chain by firms across markets (FundedNext's CFD arm and MyFundedFutures led), so they show traders want crypto rails, not only crypto charts. And in September 2025 Kraken bought Breakout, which Finance Magnates called the first crypto exchange to enter prop trading.
What changes when the market is crypto?
| Factor | Crypto prop firm | Forex/CFD prop firm |
|---|---|---|
| Trading hours | 24/7, including weekends | 24/5 |
| Price source | Exchange order books (Bybit, BloFin, Kraken) or crypto CFD feeds | Broker or liquidity-provider feed |
| Daily loss reset | Must be fixed to a stated time and time zone | Follows the trading day |
| Volatility | Higher; wider limits or lower leverage | Lower on major pairs |
| Leverage benchmark | ESMA retail cap 2:1 on crypto CFDs; Breakout up to 5x on BTC/ETH | ESMA retail cap 30:1 on major FX |
| Payments | Stablecoin checkout and payouts expected | Cards plus crypto |
| Legal layer | Crypto-asset rules (MiCA, VARA, AFSL questions) on top of prop questions | Prop and CFD questions |
Exchange-priced or CFD: which crypto model?
There are two ways to build a crypto evaluation. The first prices simulated accounts from real exchange order books, so traders see the same perpetual pairs they trade on an exchange. HyroTrader Infrastructure is the clearest example in our dataset: challenges run on demo accounts through the Bybit and BloFin APIs or its own web platform on live Bybit data, there is no real-capital stage, and payouts are a contractual share of simulated performance. Breakout, now part of Kraken, also sells evaluations on crypto pairs with leverage up to 5x on BTC and ETH.
The second runs crypto as CFDs on a multi-asset platform. Match-Trader, TradeLocker and DXtrade all list crypto among their markets, and Volumetrica's DeepchartFX covers what they say is over 500 cryptocurrencies. This is the usual route for a forex firm adding crypto, and it is what people mean by "DXtrade crypto prop trading": DXtrade's CFD prop edition with crypto symbols, rules set per plan and TradingView charts.
Choose exchange-priced if your audience trades perpetuals on exchanges and expects exchange symbols and funding mechanics; choose CFD if you already run a forex firm and want one rulebook and one platform. Either way, ask the vendor which pairs, which feed and which hours it supports before you sign.
Which platforms support a crypto prop firm?
Fewer vendors publish crypto prop prices than forex ones; most quote privately. These are the crypto-capable options in our vendor dataset, with what each one actually states. Compare them alongside the trading platform component and crypto prop firm platforms.
| Vendor | Model | Published price |
|---|---|---|
| HyroTrader Infrastructure | White-label challenge platform on Bybit/BloFin-priced demo accounts | Quote only |
| TinyTrader | White-label crypto exchange vendor with a prop product (challenges, auto-liquidation, payouts) | Quote only |
| Trade Tech Solutions | Prop CRM and platform covering CFD, futures, crypto and sports | Quote only |
| Match-Trader | CFD platform with crypto, plus Match2Pay | White label $2,500/month; turnkey $4,000/month |
| TradeLocker | CFD platform with crypto | Starter $3,000/month (500 active accounts) |
| DXtrade | CFD prop edition including crypto | Quote only |
| Volumetrica | DeepchartFX for CFDs and crypto | Quote only |
| B2PROP | cTrader white label prop with B2BinPay crypto payments | Zero platform fee on A-book; otherwise quote |
How do you write rules for 24/7 markets?
Crypto never closes, so every rule that depends on "the day" or "the weekend" needs a definition. Write them down before you configure the platform, then copy the exact wording onto the website so the rules engine and the rules page say the same thing.
- State the exact time and time zone when the daily loss limit resets.
- Decide whether weekend trading counts toward minimum trading days, and say so.
- Set leverage per pair; Breakout, for example, offers up to 5x on BTC and ETH.
- Define what happens during an exchange outage, a feed gap or an extreme wick in your price source.
- Say how funding rates on perpetuals are applied to simulated positions, if at all.
- List restricted pairs (new listings, low-liquidity tokens) and how you handle delistings.
How do crypto payments and payouts work?
Crypto traders expect to pay and be paid in stablecoins, and card processors are harder to get for prop firms anyway. Several gateways publish fees, so you can price this line before launch. State networks, minimums and timing on the payouts page, and run KYC before the first payout regardless of rail. The full comparison is on payments for a prop firm and crypto payments for prop firms.
| Rail | Checkout fee | Payouts |
|---|---|---|
| Match2Pay | 0.30%–1.00% on incoming crypto; Binance Pay 0.80%–1.00% | 0% processing; on-chain fees $1.00–$2.50 by network |
| NOWPayments | From 1%, plus 1% when converting currency | Mass payouts with no service fee, network fee only |
| CoinPayments | 1% on BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL and others | Not a payouts product in our data |
| Confirmo | Quote only (pricing page returned 404 on 12 Oct 2026) | Mass crypto payouts; MiCA-licensed gateway |
What are the legal questions for a crypto prop firm?
Crypto adds a regulatory layer on top of the usual prop questions. In the EU, the MiCA transitional period for crypto-asset service providers ended on 1 Jul 2026; ESMA expects unauthorised providers to have wound down. A simulated evaluation is not obviously a crypto-asset service, but taking stablecoin payments, holding traders' crypto or paying out in crypto through your own wallets may raise questions, and your payment provider's licence matters. See Lithuania and Estonia for EU set-ups.
In Dubai, VARA's Marketing Regulations apply to anyone marketing virtual assets or VA activities in or targeting the UAE, licensed or not; read the Dubai page before running crypto campaigns there. In Australia, ASIC has said many crypto asset products are financial products under current law and that it monitors prop firms (are prop firms legal in Australia?). Offshore founders often look at Labuan. Ask a lawyer in each market whether simulated crypto evaluations, a stablecoin checkout or crypto payouts change your position.
What does a crypto prop firm cost, and what does the site need?
A crypto firm avoids the exchange data fees futures firms pay, but it still needs a platform, risk engine, payments, KYC, legal review, a website and, because volatility is higher, a larger payout reserve if you carry payouts. No capital-backed white label in our dataset is crypto-only; PropAccount lists crypto among its markets. Price your case in the launch cost calculator and the startup cost guide.
The website needs everything a forex site needs plus crypto specifics: the reset time and time zone on the rules page, the list of tradable pairs with leverage, the price source, supported coins and networks on the payouts page, and a plain statement that accounts are simulated. Crypto audiences live on X, Telegram and Discord, so plan marketing and affiliates and the website together.

Your website, whatever platform you choose
Every route on this page still needs a marketing website: the pricing table, rules, payouts, FAQ, legal pages and the checkout hand-off to your platform. Platforms and white labels run the dashboard; they don’t build that site. PipValley does, for any platform, from $1,490 (pricing, launch service, what the site includes).
Questions
How do I start crypto prop trading as a business?
Choose between exchange-priced simulated accounts and crypto CFDs, license a platform that supports your pairs, write rules for a market that never closes, and set up stablecoin checkout and payouts. Then form the company, take legal advice on crypto rules such as MiCA or VARA, build the website and soft launch. The steps on this page give the order.
Is a crypto prop firm cheaper to start than a forex one?
Not necessarily. You avoid the exchange data fees futures firms pay, and crypto rails can cost less than high-risk card processing, but you still pay for a platform, risk engine, KYC, legal review and a website. Higher volatility can also mean a larger payout reserve if you carry payouts yourself. Model both in the launch cost calculator.
Can I run crypto prop challenges on DXtrade?
Yes. DXtrade lists crypto among the markets its prop edition supports, alongside FX, futures, stocks and options, with plan-based rules, drawdown types and TradingView charts. Devexperts does not publish prices, so you request a quote. It suits a firm that wants crypto and FX under one rulebook; exchange-native traders may prefer exchange-priced pairs.
Should a crypto prop firm pay out in crypto?
Most crypto traders expect a stablecoin option, and gateways such as NOWPayments and Match2Pay publish payout terms with only network fees or 0% processing. State networks, minimums and timing on your payouts page, run KYC before the first payout, and ask a lawyer whether paying out in crypto changes your regulatory position where you operate.
Does MiCA apply to a crypto prop firm?
Possibly, depending on what you do. MiCA governs crypto-asset service providers in the EU, and its transitional period ended on 1 July 2026. A simulated evaluation is not obviously a crypto-asset service, but custody of client crypto, exchange services or certain payment flows could be. Ask an EU lawyer to map your exact flow, and use licensed payment providers.
