A white label crypto exchange lets you launch a branded exchange without building a matching engine and wallet infrastructure from scratch. It is the most common starting point for new exchanges, and the price range is wide because "white label" means anything from a hosted template to a full deployment on your own servers.
This guide explains what vendors include, what the published cost ranges are and where they come from, and what licensing you still need. Our how to start a crypto exchange guide covers the full launch sequence.
What does a white label crypto exchange include?
Vendors package the same core modules in different ways. Check each one against your model before you compare prices.
- Matching engine and order book, or a brokerage (quote) engine for instant buy and sell.
- Wallet infrastructure: deposit addresses, hot and cold wallet management, withdrawal approvals.
- Web and mobile trading front ends with your branding.
- Admin panel: users, assets, fees, limits, reports.
- KYC and AML integrations, usually with third-party vendors.
- Liquidity connections to other venues or market makers.
- Fiat on-ramp and payment integrations, where offered.
Who sells white label exchanges?
The market splits into a few vendor categories. We do not rank vendors; ask each for references you can contact and a written scope.
| Category | What you get | Typical trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Broker technology groups | Exchange software alongside CRM, liquidity and forex products | Broad bundle; you may be tied to their liquidity |
| Specialist exchange software vendors | Exchange platform as the core product, hosted or deployed | Deeper exchange features; integrations to arrange |
| Open-source kits and SaaS | Lower-cost hosted or self-run software | Cheaper entry; more work on security and operations |
| Development agencies | Custom build from your specification | Most control; highest cost and time |
What does a white label crypto exchange cost?
Only vendors publish ranges, and they differ by an order of magnitude. Both sources below sell exchange technology, so treat their figures as marketing estimates and ask for itemised quotes.
- The ranges are wide because scope differs: a hosted brokerage with one liquidity provider is a different product from a self-hosted order-book exchange.
- Recurring lines (liquidity, hosting, support, compliance) often outweigh setup within the first year.
- Ask what is excluded: custody insurance, audits, penetration tests, blockchain analytics and KYC per-check fees are commonly extra.

What licences do you still need?
The software vendor is not your regulator. You need authorisation for the services you offer, where your customers are.
- EU: MiCA CASP authorisation. ESMA lists minimum capital of EUR 125,000 for exchange and custody services and EUR 150,000 for operating a trading platform, or a quarter of fixed overheads if higher. The transitional period ended on 1 July 2026.
- US: FinCEN treats exchanging convertible virtual currency as money transmission in most cases, so exchanges register as money services businesses, and most states require money transmitter licences.
- New York: a BitLicense, with a USD 5,000 nonrefundable application fee reported, plus supervision assessments.
- Elsewhere: regimes such as Dubai's VARA have their own requirements. Some vendors suggest specific jurisdictions; make that choice with a lawyer, not a salesperson.
Hosted or self-hosted?
Vendors usually offer either a hosted deployment on their cloud or a deployment on infrastructure you control. Hosted is faster and cheaper to start; B2Broker puts cloud hosting at about $2,000–$6,000 a month. Self-hosted, which B2Broker prices at $10,000–$20,000 in initial setup plus maintenance for on-premise, gives you more control over data and security but needs your own engineering and operations team.
Your regulator may influence the choice: where data is stored, who can access production systems and how outsourcing is governed are all questions a licensing application can raise. Under MiCA, custody and certain other services cannot be outsourced to unauthorised third-country entities.
What should you check before signing?
The contract matters as much as the demo. These are the questions that decide whether the platform works for you in year two.
- Custody: who controls private keys, and how are withdrawals approved?
- Security: recent independent audits and penetration test reports you can read.
- Hosting: vendor cloud or your own servers, and where data sits relative to your regulator's rules.
- Liquidity: can you choose and change providers?
- Source code and data: escrow, export and what happens if the vendor fails.
- Fees: setup, monthly, revenue share, per-asset or per-pair listing fees.
- Compliance tooling: travel rule, blockchain analytics and reporting support.
Where PipValley fits
A white label gives you the same trading screens as other exchanges on that vendor, so the marketing site is where your brand, trust signals and licence details live. PipValley builds websites for prop firms and the trading businesses next to them; see websites for crypto exchanges for exchanges and websites for prop tech and broker tech vendors if you sell exchange technology. Our team operates prop firms; we have not built an exchange website for a client.
Questions
How much does a white label crypto exchange cost?
Vendor estimates range from about $8,000 to $250,000+ for setup and $5,000 to $50,000 a month ongoing (B2Broker, April 2026) to $50,000–$500,000 setup and $10,000–$100,000 a month (Shift Markets, July 2024). Licensing is extra.
Does a white label crypto exchange come with a licence?
No. The vendor supplies software; you need your own authorisation where your customers are, such as MiCA CASP authorisation in the EU or FinCEN registration and state licences in the US.
How long does it take to launch a white label exchange?
The software can often be configured in weeks, but licensing, banking, liquidity and security reviews usually take much longer. Plan the launch date around the licence, not the software.
Is a white label exchange cheaper than building one?
Usually, at the start. Shift Markets estimates custom builds at $250,000 to $2,000,000+ to develop, against $50,000 to $500,000 for white-label setup, as published in July 2024. Recurring fees narrow the gap over time.
