A white label is the most common way new forex brokers get a trading platform. Instead of licensing MetaTrader, cTrader or another platform directly and running servers, you rent a branded instance from a provider that already has the licence and infrastructure. This guide explains what you get, what you do not, and how a white label compares with the other routes. For dated prices, see our white label forex broker cost guide.
How does a white label forex broker work?
The provider holds the main platform licence and runs the trading servers. You get a branded copy: your logo and name on the desktop, web and mobile apps, your own client groups, spreads and commissions, and access to the back office for your accounts. Clients sign up with your company and deposit with your company; the provider stays in the background.
Liquidity can come from the white-label provider or from a separate liquidity provider connected through a bridge. Many white-label packages bundle a CRM and client portal; others expect you to bring your own.
What do you rent and what do you still need?
A white label solves the technology. It does not make you a licensed broker, and that is the most common misunderstanding about the model.
| Area | Usually from the provider | Usually your responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| Trading platform | Branded desktop, web and mobile apps; servers; updates | Platform choice, client groups, symbols, spreads |
| Liquidity | Optional bundled liquidity or bridge | Liquidity agreements, execution policy, risk management |
| CRM and client portal | Sometimes bundled | Configuration, KYC flows, IB structure |
| Licence | Not included | Your own authorisation in each market you serve |
| Banking and payments | Sometimes introductions | Client money accounts, processors, reconciliation |
| Website and legal pages | Sometimes a template | Content, disclosures, terms, risk warnings |
| Marketing and support | Not included | All acquisition, support staff and complaints handling |
What does a white label cost?
B2Broker's April 2026 MT5 white label guide gives industry ranges of $5,000–$15,000 one-time setup, $1,000–$5,000 a month for the core platform, and $2,700–$11,000 a month all-in with liquidity, CRM and add-ons. It also says MetaQuotes stopped issuing new MT5 white label licences in late 2022, so new MT5 brokers sub-license from an existing licence holder.
Those prices sit on top of what licence holders pay the platform vendor. Finance Magnates reported in February 2025 that MetaQuotes raised its licensing fees by roughly 20% to 25% from January 2025. Our white label forex broker cost guide compares the figures with a prop firm's costs.
White label vs full licence vs IB
There are three common ways into the business, with very different costs, control and risk.
- An IB earns commissions or rebates for referred clients and usually does not hold client money. Whether an IB needs its own authorisation depends on the country.
- Many brokers start on a white label and move to their own server licence once volume justifies the fixed cost.
| Route | What you control | Upfront cost | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Introducing broker (IB) | Your audience and marketing; clients trade with a partner broker | Low | Dependence on the partner broker's terms and licence |
| White label | Brand, pricing, onboarding, clients | MT5: $5,000–$15,000 setup plus monthly (B2Broker estimate) | Platform and provider dependence; you still need your own licence |
| Own platform licence (main label) | Everything, including servers and data | Highest; quote only from vendors | Fixed costs and engineering burden |
How do you launch on a white label?
The technology is usually the quickest part of the launch. A typical sequence, once you have chosen a provider, looks like this.
- Confirm your licence route first, so the platform setup matches the permissions you will hold.
- Sign the white-label agreement and choose platforms: desktop, web and mobile apps, and which symbols you will offer.
- Configure client groups, leverage within your regulator's limits, spreads, commissions and swaps.
- Connect liquidity and test execution on a demo environment before any client funds arrive.
- Connect the CRM, KYC vendor and payment providers, and test deposits and withdrawals end to end.
- Publish the website with legal documents, risk warnings and entity details that match the live setup.
- Run a soft launch with a small group of clients, then open marketing.
What are the risks of the white-label model?
The main risk is dependence. Your platform, and sometimes your liquidity and CRM, belong to someone else, so their pricing changes, outages and licence problems become yours. The 2025 MetaQuotes fee increase reported by Finance Magnates is one example of a cost you do not control.
The second risk is sameness. Many brokers on the same white label offer the same apps with a different logo. What sets you apart is pricing, service, education, local presence and how clearly your website explains all of it.
What should you check before signing?
White-label contracts are long and specific. These are the points that most affect your business later.
- Licence chain: who holds the main platform licence, and does it permit your use and your target countries?
- Data ownership and export: can you take client, trade and IB data with you if you leave?
- Liquidity: are you tied to the provider's liquidity, and what are the execution terms?
- Fees: setup, monthly, per-account or per-volume fees, minimums, and what triggers a price change.
- Uptime, support hours and incident terms in writing.
- Notice period and what happens to open positions if the agreement ends.
Where PipValley fits
A white label gives you the same platform as many other brokers, so the website is one of the few places your brand can stand apart. PipValley builds websites for prop firms and the trading businesses next to them: see websites for forex and CFD brokers for brokerages and websites for prop tech and broker tech vendors for platform and white-label providers. Our team operates prop firms; we have not built a brokerage site for a client.
Questions
What is a white label forex broker?
A white label forex broker is a brokerage that runs its own brand on a trading platform and infrastructure rented from a provider holding the platform licence. The broker controls branding, pricing and clients but still needs its own regulatory licence.
Do I need a licence for a white label forex brokerage?
Usually yes. A white label provides technology, not authorisation; if you take client money and offer trading, most jurisdictions require your own licence. Ask a regulatory lawyer for your target markets.
Is a white label cheaper than an MT5 licence?
Yes, upfront. B2Broker estimates an MT5 white label at $5,000–$15,000 setup and $1,000–$5,000 a month for the platform, while a main platform licence carries much higher fixed fees, priced by quote.
Can a prop firm use a forex white label?
Not usually in the same way. Most prop firms sell evaluations on demo accounts using prop-specific platforms, and MetaQuotes reportedly restricted prop firm use of MetaTrader in 2024. See our white label prop firm guide for that model.
