White Label Forex Broker vs White Label Prop Firm

White-label forex broker vs white-label prop firm: deposits vs fees, licensing, platforms, costs and what each business's website must do.

Founders often arrive at prop trading from brokerage, or the other way round, and the two "white label" offers sound alike. They are different businesses with different regulators, revenue, risks and websites. This guide sets them side by side for an operator deciding which to build, or whether to run both.

What is the core difference?

The core difference is whose money is at stake. A forex broker holds client deposits and its clients trade live markets (or against the broker); a prop firm sells an evaluation product, accounts are simulated, and traders who meet the rules receive rewards paid from the firm's revenue. That one fact drives licensing, banking, platform access and how each website must speak.

How do licences and onboarding differ?

A broker usually needs a licence, and platform vendors check. Finance Magnates reported in September 2022 that MetaQuotes tightened white-label onboarding, asking for corporate bank account proof, domain ownership in the company's name and video verification of key people, and that offshore brokers in Seychelles, Vanuatu and St Vincent were most affected. B2Broker says MetaQuotes stopped issuing new MT5 white-label licences in late 2022.

A prop firm usually doesn't hold a broker licence, which is why platform vendors became cautious about them: MetaQuotes' February 2024 action against grey-labelled prop servers, and Spotware's 2026 restriction on US prop onboarding to cTrader, both followed regulatory assessments rather than published rules. Whether your product needs a licence where you sell is a legal question; we don't answer it here.

How do costs compare?

Costs overlap at the platform layer and diverge after it. As published, an MT5 white label runs in an industry range of $5,000–$15,000 setup and $1,000–$5,000 a month (B2Broker, April 2026), before liquidity, bridge and CRM. A prop firm's platform lines are, for example, Match-Trader from $2,500 a month or TradeLocker Starter at $3,000 a month for up to 500 active accounts; and some prop white labels skip the monthly fee for a profit share, such as PropSuite's published $2,749 setup plus a 50–70% founder share of net revenue. A broker carries client-money and liquidity costs a prop firm doesn't; a prop firm carries payout risk a broker doesn't.

How do platform vendors treat each model?

Platform vendors increasingly sell separate products to brokers and prop firms. Match-Trader publishes prop tiers next to its broker white label; TradeLocker has a dedicated prop pricing page; Spotware sells cTrader prop white labels through named resellers; Devexperts lists prop trading technology for CFDs and futures. MetaQuotes has no published prop product. If you plan to run both models, check that your platform contract covers both, because a broker licence does not automatically permit evaluation accounts, as the 2024 grey-label cut-offs showed.

Can one company run both?

Some groups run both, and large prop firms have moved toward brokerage: FTMO completed its acquisition of the broker OANDA on December 1, 2025, and Topstep launched an introducing broker in January 2026, according to Finance Magnates and TradeInformer. For a new founder, running both multiplies licensing, banking and compliance work. Start with one, and keep the brands, websites and terms clearly separate if you add the other.

What does each model mean for your website?

  • Broker site: regulator name and licence number in the footer, client-money and risk warnings above the fold where your regulator requires them, account types and spreads, deposit and withdrawal methods, and a platform page per platform.
  • Prop firm site: simulated-trading disclosure, rules with worked examples, a pricing table, payout terms, restricted countries per platform and a checkout hand-off to the prop back office.
  • Both: never let prop copy imply live capital or investment returns, and never let broker copy borrow prop marketing language. If you run both, use separate domains and separate legal pages.

Questions

What is a white label forex broker?

A white-label forex broker is a brokerage brand that runs on another company's licensed platform and infrastructure, taking client deposits and offering live trading under its own name, often with the provider's licence or its own.

Is a prop firm a broker?

Most evaluation prop firms say they are not brokers: traders pay a fee, trade simulated accounts and receive rewards under the firm's rules. Whether that holds for your structure is a question for a lawyer where you operate.

Which is cheaper to start, a white-label broker or a prop firm?

A white-label prop firm usually needs less regulated capital because it holds no client deposits, but it carries payout risk. A broker carries licensing, liquidity and client-money costs. Compare full budgets, not platform fees.
