Prop Firm Discord and Community: An Operator's Guide

How prop firm owners run a Discord: channel structure, AutoMod moderation, scams and impersonation, support routing and promotion rules.

Nearly every prop firm runs a Discord or a similar community, because traders expect one and because it is a marketing channel that ad restrictions do not reach. It is also the most public place a firm can make mistakes: every slow payout, unclear rule and staff reply happens in front of thousands of traders.

This guide covers structure, moderation, scams, support, promotion rules and how the community connects to the website. It is written from operating experience and cites Discord's own rules where they apply.

What should a prop firm Discord include?

A prop firm Discord should include a small set of channels with clear jobs: read-only announcements and rules, a place to ask questions, trader chat, and a route to private support. Too many channels split the conversation and leave questions unanswered.

How do you moderate a prop firm Discord?

Moderate a prop firm Discord with written rules, trained moderators, automated filters and consistent action. Discord's AutoMod lets each server set rules that trigger on criteria; its developer documentation allows up to six keyword rules per server plus one each for spam, preset keyword lists, mention spam and member profile checks.

Use keyword rules for the things that hurt you most: links to fake support sites, "DM me for funded accounts", payment requests, and names of other firms used for spam. Pair automation with people who know the rules well enough to answer, because a moderator who only deletes messages makes the room colder, not safer.

How do you stop scams and impersonation?

Stop scams and impersonation by making real staff unmistakable and telling traders, repeatedly, what staff will never do. Scammers copy staff names and avatars, then direct-message traders offering account passes, discounts or payout help. Discord's community guidelines prohibit misrepresenting your identity "in a deceptive or harmful way" and using Discord "to promote, coordinate, or execute financial scams", and Discord accepts reports, but prevention is your job.

  • Give staff a distinct role colour and a verified list on the website.
  • Pin a notice: staff never DM first, never ask for passwords or payment, never sell passes.
  • Block common impersonation names and lookalike characters with AutoMod.
  • Limit who can DM members from the server where possible.
  • Report impersonators to Discord and post a warning when a campaign starts.

Should support run through Discord?

Support should start in Discord only for general questions and move to a ticket for anything account-specific. Public channels are good for rule questions everyone benefits from; they are bad for KYC, payouts and breaches, which involve personal data and need an audit trail in your CRM.

Treat the questions channel as research. Count recurring questions weekly; each is either a missing FAQ page or an unclear rule. Answer once on the website, then link to that page every time it comes up.

What promotion rules apply in the community?

The promotion rules that apply in a prop firm community are the same that apply to your marketing: no income promises, accurate descriptions of simulated trading, and disclosure of paid relationships. Community managers, ambassadors and influencers who are paid or rewarded must disclose it.

The FTC expects paid endorsements to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. In the UK, the FCA's finalised guidance FG24/1 on financial promotions on social media warns that unauthorised persons, such as influencers, promoting a regulated financial product without approval may be committing a criminal offence. Whether your product is caught where you operate is a question for a lawyer, but the safe default is to apply the same rules in Discord that you apply on the website.

What this means for your website

The community works best when the website is the source of truth. Announcements link to dated rule pages, answers link to FAQ pages, and the website lists the official community links and staff so traders can tell real from fake. A community that pastes rules into chat ends up with five versions of each rule.

PipValley builds the FAQ center, rules pages and trust page that your community links to, and adds an official-channels block listing real community links and staff handles. See the FAQ center, rules pages and trust center features, or our prop firm marketing guide for how community fits the channel mix.

Questions

Does a prop firm need a Discord?

A prop firm does not strictly need a Discord, but most run one because traders expect a community and it is a marketing channel ad restrictions do not reach. If you cannot staff it with moderators who know the rules, start smaller.

How do prop firms stop Discord scammers?

Prop firms stop Discord scammers by making staff unmistakable with distinct roles and a published staff list, pinning a notice that staff never DM first or ask for payment, filtering impersonation with AutoMod and reporting impersonators to Discord.

Should prop firm support happen in Discord?

General rule and platform questions can be answered in Discord, but account-specific support such as KYC, payouts and breaches should move to a private ticket recorded in the CRM, because it involves personal data and needs an audit trail.

Do Discord ambassadors have to disclose they are paid?

Paid or rewarded ambassadors and influencers generally have to disclose the relationship; the FTC expects clear and conspicuous disclosure, and UK FCA guidance FG24/1 covers financial promotions by influencers. Put the duty in their agreement.
